You read that right folks…we’re turning Twinkies into cactuses then covering them in green chocolate & throwing some colored sprinkles at ’em.
Cinco de Mayo is tomorrow! We are having a party & I’m running around prepping for some fun for tomorrow. I’m hoping to share the table this afternoon- so check back!
In the meantime, you need these chocolate covered cactus Twinkies in your life. If not in time for Cinco de Mayo, you can fiesta all summer long with the oh-so-popular cactus in it’s very best form.
Making your own is easy peasy. Grab a box of Twinkies (try not to eat them all!), green candy melts, sprinkles & toothpicks. Lay wax paper on a large pan.
A full box will make 6 cactuses, we couldn’t resist ours, so we ended up with 4. Oops!
Lay out 6 Twinkies on the pan. Slice the other 4 diagonally & arrange to form cactuses with the 6 Twinkies on the pan. Use toothpicks to insert cactus arms.
We’re not exactly going to be dipping the Twinkies in chocolate- sponge cake gets too messy. You’ll spoon it over the cactuses. Let it drip down the sides & use the backside of your spoon to guide the chocolate around.
If you have 2 shades of green, use the second color to add stripes & squiggles across the cactus. Quick, shake on some sprinkles!
Let them harden on the counter overnight, or in the fridge/freezer for an hour if you’re in a hurry.
Or as long as you can contain yourself.
Happy Fiesta amigos!
PS- Linking up at some of my fave places, check ’em out!
