Today I’m sharing a super yummy, fairly easy recipe for apple butter. I made it go with rolls for Thanksgiving & it goes great with ham too. It’d be perfect for your holiday table or Christmas breakfast. You can even make a big batch & gift several jars of homemade goodness. Plus your house will smell amazing while you’re making it!
You’ll need to get together some apples, obviously! I used honey crisp, I think they’re the best for baking. Google agrees. 🙂
Plus sugar, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, red hots, & salt.
No hot tamales will not work, you need to find red hots! I found mine at a Dollar General if that helps.
This is my least favorite part. I hate peeling apples! Someone get me one of those fancy apple peelers for Christmas!
Peel those apples & quarter them too.
Then place them in a pot on the stove. My pot’s a little big.
Add the apple cider vinegar & turn the heat to high. Once it starts to boil turn the heat down to medium & get a good simmer going for half an hour, until they look mushy like this.
Now add the sugars & precisely 25 red hots. Count ’em!
After simmering for 2 hours & mashing a few times here & there it should be looking similar to this & smelling fabulous. I added a few drops of red food coloring to make mine a bit more red.
Now it’s time to throw it into the food processor, or use an impulsion blender, or a bullet, or something similar. You get the idea. We just don’t want any lumps.
Add in the juice of a lemon & pulse a bit more.
Then you shall have this gloriousness to devour on all forms of bread or breakfast foods.
So good! This will be fun to make around the holidays!
