I love the shiny ceramic trays you can buy to store your eggs now. It’s going to be one of my very first kitchen purchases in a couple of months!
I thought Easter eggs needed a pretty tray for display too! So I painted up a normal egg crate in spring colors.
It’s easy & a perfect activity to keep the older kids busy.
You need an egg crate- any size, scissors, foam brushes, acrylic sealer & paint. This paint is only $.50 at Walmart.
Before you get started on the painting, cut away the top & any other excess pieces.
Lay it on top of newspaper to keep the mess away.
Pick your pretty spring color & pour some on the newspaper or a paper plate. I used dandelion yellow.
Start painting! I painted all the edges & tops first, but you can do it anyway you prefer.
Once it’s totally covered in pretty paint, let it dry. I did 3 coats of paint, but you could get by with 2.
Then flip it over & paint the backside & edges. I used wintergreen on the bottom half. You could use the same color all over though. I think the yellow would’ve looked good all over too.
To make it look a bit nicer, spray a couple of coats of clear acrylic sealer over the whole thing. Do this outside or very bad things will happen!
Once it’s dry, add the eggs!
Very cute! Although, I think I’ll still get a real one!
**Please do not put real eggs in this, as I do not know if the sealer is food safe.
